“Contrary to media speculation, General Motors has not announced any changes to its long-term viability plan or to the future status of any of its brands. GM is continuing to review its restructuring plan to go further and faster and best ensure its future success. Additional information will be released as any decisions are finalized

While the future of Pontiac remains secure for now, the marque is being shifted to a niche brand, leaving the mainstream market to GM’s Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC divisions in the US.” - More from The Motor Report…

“But… Pontiac is dead right? Well like zombies and Jesus, I’m holding out that Pontiac will rise again. I’m of the opinion that the nameplate is only taking a temporary hiatus, and that when GM is back to being profitable they will resurrect the brand to thunderous applause. My reasoning? It’s simply too historically important to let it die.” - More from WebRidesTV…

“So, a lot of people have picked up on my theme of asking why GM won’t sell Pontiac. There are eligible buyers, and they want to buy the brand for fair market price. So, why not sell? I suspect that GM’s board decided that Pontiac could be mothballed, and brought back after the government and unions sell their stake in the company. Both have said they intend to… who knows if they actually hold true” - More from ChristopherPrice.net…

“Auto brands that died and came back include Mini, Abarth, Audi. Heck, even the ENTIRE U.S. car industry shut down production during World War II, and returned.

Also, if you actually make some cars, you have a good chance of keeping the intellectual property viable.

So put Pontiac on hiatus for a few years. Fix the old ones up. And allow folks like ASC to come up with some fun things in the interim.” - More from BrandLandUSA…

“CarGurus, a leading online automotive community, today announced the results of its latest survey of 1,693 online automotive consumers worldwide. When asked which of the four GM brands they want to survive planned elimination, forty-four percent of respondents selected Pontiac, and 27% chose Hummer. Saab was chosen by 20% of respondents, and Saturn by only 9%.

“Pontiac has a trailblazing heritage – the 1964 Pontiac GTO is widely credited with starting the muscle-car craze – and its current G6 is the 20th best-selling car in the U.S.” - More from Car Connection…

“The problems that killed off the Pontiac brand were far more complicated than mere sales. Pontiac was actually the third best selling brand for GM behind the Chevrolet and GMC brands. In 2008, for example sales were 1,801,131 for Chevrolet, 376,996 for GMC, 267,348 for Pontiac, 188,004 for Saturn, 161,159 for Cadillac, 137,197 for Buick, 27,485 for Hummer and 21,368 for Saab, for a total of 2,980,688 vehicles. Certainly these figures were way down from sales figures of the past, however the problems for the Pontiac Division were many-fold.” - More from WizbangBlue…

From my humble beginnings as a technician and with the help of dedicated employees, we have also become the fifth largest GM parts dealer in the United States, the fifth largest Ford Parts Dealer in the nation, and the largest Chrysler Corporation parts dealer in the United States. How has our commitment to excellence, loyalty to the domestic auto industry and support for our communities been rewarded? On June 1, our Limerick Pontiac Buick GMC dealership received a “Wind Down” Agreement from the General Motors Corporation indicating that our General Motors Franchise was being revoked.” - More from PRWeb…

“General Motors is requiring all surviving dealers to sign a “participation agreement” asking them to comply with any dealership upgrades that the company imposes in bankruptcy.

GM also will require dealers who got franchise termination letters to sign a “wind-down” agreement. ” - More from Autonews…

“We believe they’re going to take away our franchise and give it to another dealer here in town, which is wrong,” Jennings said. “General Motors believes that people are loyal to brand only. But people are more loyal to the people they’re doing business with than the product they’re buying.” - More from ChicagoTribune…
